Technical Examination

  • The student must be able to designate the following operating equipment:

    • Switch for ignition, electric starter, possibly engine stop and horn as well as permitted and required lights.
    • Tank cover and possible shut-off valve for fuel supply.
    • Handle for gas and choke.
    • Handle for handbrake and clutch.
    • Pedal for foot brake, gear and possible kick starter.
    • Handlebar, side support leg and possibly central support leg.
    • Filling cap for engine oil and possibly coolant.

  • The student must be able to indicate the contents of the following:

    • Engine stop switch can be used to stop the engine in the event of a rollover or similar.

  • The student must be able to read and understand the meaning of the following instruments and control equipment:

    Speedometer and any tachometer.
    Check for oil pressure, electric current and light in lights, including turn signals and any check for temperature, gear and ABS brakes.

  • The student must be able to check whether the following conditions for lights, reflectors and horns are met:

    • All lights and reflectors must be intact and clean, and all lights must be able to light.
    • The dipped beam must not dazzle. (decrease 1 cm per m.).
    • Stop lights must provide significantly stronger light than rear lights.
    • The turn signals must flash a yellow light that can be clearly seen in sunlight.
    • The number plate light must have white light that can illuminate the number plate.
    • Lights in a pair of lights must have the same color and brightness.
    • The horn must have a clear and constant tone.

  • The student must be able to check whether the following conditions for the engine are met:

    • The engine must not generate unnecessary smoke and noise.
    • The engine must not be contaminated by leaking oil.
    • The exhaust system must be tight and secure.
    • Engine oil must be filled in sufficient quantity, judged according to the instructions in the instruction manual.
    • On water-cooled motorcycles, water must be filled in sufficient quantity, judged according to the instructions in the instruction manual.

  • The student must be able to check whether the following conditions for the transmission are met:

    • The chain must be lubricated and must not be rusty.
    • The chain or toothed belt must have a suitable tension. It should normally be able to move 1-2 cm up and down.

  • The student must be able to check whether the following conditions for the load-bearing parts are met:

    • Wheel rims must be undamaged.
    • Wheel bearings must be complete, sufficiently tensioned and present in full.
    • Wheel bearings and axles must be sufficiently tensioned and without play.
    • Tires must have at least 1 mm depth in the main pattern, possibly assessed by wear indicators.
    • Shock absorbers must be effective (judged by the fact that the front or rear of the motorcycle lifts up and settles down immediately after a strong push down). Adjustable shock absorbers must be correctly adjusted.

  • The student must be able to check whether the following conditions for mechanical brakes are met:

    • As a rule, the brake lever must be able to be pulled no more than 2/3.
    • The brake pedal must have a non-slip surface.
    • In the top position, the pedal must be suitably positioned in relation to the footrest. It should be possible to step no more than 2-3 cm down to the breaking point and it must not put the foot in an uncomfortable position.
    • Brake arms, brake cables and brake rods must not wear or pinch against parts of the motorcycle.
    • Brake cables must be lubricated, whole and without kinks. Brake rods must not be deformed.

  • The student must be able to check whether the following conditions for hydraulic brakes are met:

    • The brake lever must have a smaller free play and, as a rule, must be able to be pulled no more than 2/3 under an impact corresponding to heavy braking. With very strong activation, the brake lever on some motorcycles can be pressed into contact with the handlebars.
    • During continuous activation with constant impact, the brake lever must not be able to be pulled further (sink) towards the handle.
    • The brake pedal must have a small clearance and a non-slip surface so that it provides a good foothold.
    • In the top position, the brake pedal must be suitably positioned in relation to the footrest, it should be possible to step down 2-3 cm to the breaking point at the most and it must not put the foot in an uncomfortable position.
    • During continuous activation with constant impact, the brake pedal must not sink.
    • In the containers for brake fluid, the fluid level must be between min. and max. the brands.

  • The student must be able to check whether the following conditions for the steering system are met:

    • With full steering reach, there must be sufficient room for the driver’s hands.
    • The front wheel must precisely follow the movement of the handlebars.
    • Handlebars and handles must be secure.
    • There must be no play between the crown tube and steering stem and between the fork crown and connecting piece as well as in the telescopic tube.

Øzkan is the best instructor ever! He has a lot of patience and really knows how to guide and teach. ( I have friends who dont know how to do paralel parking but I tought them, as Øzkan showed me the right way).
